The artist-photographer-mother-repairer-costermonger-humourist-architect

Architectural Association Summer School 2022-3 / Intermediate 11.

Intermediate 11 is interested in the domestic, the object, the body; using these to develop mental prosthetics useful to poke at reality.

The unit celebrates architecture as a practice that expands beyond the design of physical spaces to the construction of objects, stories, systems and interfaces that embrace intimate scales of human culture. We ask of social infrastructure: what relationships and resilient partnerships exist between the ecosystem of local organisations, networks and services, public and private investments, and our streets? What are the social effects that these relationships produce?

We have taken on many different roles: the one who repairs, who paints, who photographs, who curates, who jokes. Each joke, painting, object, cast and scan are developed as a satirical tool to reveal the existing scene and design a hyperreality that provides a new narrative, revealing overlooked conditions – tangible and intangible – between objects, characters, rooms and the city. The small is always on the loose and in search of the rest of the plot.
