The idea of domesticity has a very long history. Its origin traces to the monastic cell and its construct was linked for a very long time to the traditional ideal of family – a mother, father, and child. Our social fabrics have changed a lot since - customs, interfaces and ways of being - has our forms and imaginations of domesticity caught on to these changes? Guilford’s Parlour is an invitation into our idea of domestic association: a Georgian townhouse as a gallery; a domestic space as a construct of occasions and subjects; a home of artists as a condensation of lived experiences. Besides being a private space for acts of living, what is the greater reality of a Home?
